Ethereum Co-founder Vitalik Buterin Expresses Concerns Over Crypto Stagnation and AI Risks

According to Decrypt: Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, revealed his primary concerns for the future of the platform and the larger crypto ecosystem during an ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA) session on Farcaster. Responding to a user’s query, Buterin confessed to being apprehensive about the possibility of crypto stagnation leading to the abandonment of ambitious aims such as privacy and open internet infrastructure.

Furthermore, when asked about what occupies his thoughts most, Buterin mentioned “AI-related issues.” His concerns include questions about the existential challenges arising from AI development and how the Ethereum community might effectively engage with these problems.

The crypto pioneer, on previous occasions, has discussed humanity’s coexisting in an increasingly bot-saturated online world. Reacting to the launch of Worldcoin, founded by AI wunderkind Sam Altman, Buterin emphasized the significance of a robust proof-of-personhood system to aid humans in validating their identities.

Buterin also showed concern about how artificial intelligence could influence regulatory policy in tech and the potential for crucial techno-political matters to be swayed by AI development in the coming years. Despite expressing these worries, he commended decentralized social media platforms developed utilizing Ethereum sign-in options, such as Farcaster and Lens Protocol, and expressed optimism for their potential growth.
